Sure can.  Make a black & white version of your image, with the part you want
to show in black and the part you want invisible in white.  Make sure it's
the same size as your regular image map, so the edges match.  Use it as a
texture map in transparency.  Set transparency=0% (Actually the transparency
setting doesn't matter.)
